    Chuck Pratt

Just a couple of days ago, DGE (District Governor Elect) Chuck and his wife Marva returned from the District Governors training in San Diego, California. He was one of 550 DGEs who went to receive intensive studies on how to run a Rotary District and to receive the new theme (2006-2007) from the incoming R.I. President William B. Boy (from New Zealand). The theme is:

    Lead the Way

PDG Chuck is a relatively new to Rotary. He joined the Rotary Club of Oviedo in 1994, became its president in 2003-2004 and the following year was elected governor nominee for the 2006-2007 Rotary year.

Chuck received the Distinguished President's Award for initiating and bringing to completion Rotary International Project 51211. This was a multi-club project to fund vital equipment for the Bustamante Children's Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica. The total donation was $43,529. The project served as the catalyst for the Rotary Club of Oviedo and the Rotary Club of St Andrew (Kingston) to become twin clubs.

He has been active for many years in Oviedo and served on the City Council, was Charter President of the Oviedo Chamber of Commerce and is council member of the First United Methodist Church.

When not doing Rotary work, Chuck runs Chess, Inc. a construction company. He and his wife Marva who supports his Rotary endeavors have been married for thirty three years have two daughters - Elizabeth and Sara.

    What is Rotaract?

"In 1968 the United States was bubbling over with the energy of change.

Apollo 8 rocketed toward the moon, protesters screamed for an end to the Vietnam War, and the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. sparked riots in cities across the nation.

In this revolutionary climate, several entrepreneurial college students sought to establish a new club at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte.

Their drive sparked the creation of the club that became Rotaract.

Today, Rotaract is a Rotary International program for young adults ages 18-30. It can either be community-based or university based.

It has grown to more than 186,000 members in about 8,100 clubs in nearly 140 countries."**

Rotary District 6980 has a Rotaract club at the University of Central Florida. Rotarians Carlos and Denise Giraldo are proud to have their daughter Gina as member and officer of that Rotaract Club.
