Mickey The Bear has been kidnapped! ![]()
Casselberry, Fl --- At 8:35 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, the president of the Rotary Club of Casselberry Gary Teramae and CEO of Gulf States Credit Union discovered that the club's stuffed bear mascot, Mickey The Bear was missing and possibly kidnapped.
When questioned at the scene, Gary stated "What I know at this point is that this morning Kathleen Cresswell had been discussing the history of Mickey and how he had been kidnapped in the past. The back door was open and was the logical point of exit. It probably would not be someone who is fairly new to the Club which means it would be someone with some history."
Gary went on to say: "A ransom note with a picture of a blindfolded Mickey showed up at the Credit Union today. It was delivered in an envelope by being dropped off on someone's desk and that person abruptly left without much notice. Several people did notice that the person was a male, around average height and weight with brown hair. I went through the pictures of our roster but did not get a positive ID. Although they used letters from a newspaper to acknowledge the letter, they addressed it to me in their handwriting."
The perpetrator(s) of this crime are asked to return the club's mascot ASAP. President Gary has the ultimate responsibility for the care and welfare of the stuffed bears and as he pointed out "to say the least, Rotary Ann is besides herself. They were just getting back to a reconciliation and this happens."
Gary beckons "If you have any thoughts or leads lets discuss this. I would love to turn the tables on the person who took Mickey but I need your help."
Our Sergeant-at-Arms has opened an investigation into the dastardly deed and has some leads in the case. This Wednesday he plans to hold a "Who's Done It" inquiry during Brags and Sags.

At last week's meeting, District Governor Nominating Committee Chairman, PDG Dave Apfelbaum, Governor Micki Kaye, PDG JoAnn Beck and PDG Charlie Rogers visited the club and announced the election of Carlos Giraldo as Governor for the year of 2008- 2009.
Carlos stated that "this accomplishment would not have been possible without the support of the club since I joined in November, 2000." He further stated that "he is proud to bring the honor of this office to the club" - the first time in its twenty-eight year history.
When questioned about the whereabouts of Mickey The Bear, Carlos quipped "I didn't do it!" and wished President Gary his sympathy for letting this happen during his watch.
April is Magazine Month Although the Internet has added an extra dimension to communication, the printed magazine continues to be a fundamental resource for Rotarians worldwide. RI President Carl Wilhelm wrote "The Rotary magazines are of great importance for communication between Rotarians and the RI Board. According to our Manual of Procedure, they exist to further the purpose of RI and the Object of Rotary."
This month, Rotary celebrates its cornerstone publication - The Rotarian. Here are some facts about Rotary's publications:
- The Rotarian is the official magazine of Rotary International
- There are 30 additional magazines published throughout the Rotary world.
- Each magazine must be certified by the RI Board of Directors
- Editors of all magazines meet annually and update publishing procedure
