    Duane Bailey

Our club's most affable greeter and entertainer extraordinaire. This is his story...

I was born on July 27, 1926 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. High School - graduated in 1944 as Vice President of my class of 28 students. Then on to Michigan State University graduating class of 1951 with a degree in Agriculture Economics.

I was raised on a dairy farm in Western Michigan and felt bad when my great older brother decided to go into the service leaving me as essential labor on the farm while he went into the army and had the honor of serving in the infantry at the invasion of France, Belgium and Germany.

On graduation from MSU, I joined the New York Life Group Insurance Department for five years, first in Cincinnati and then in Milwaukee and Kansas City.

I left the New York Life to open a new Group Insurance office in Detroit for the Provident Mutual Life Insurance Company. After five more years I opened my own insurance office and hired several young men to sell our various products.

In 1975 we moved to Florida because Pat's dad had died and to be with my mother- in law and to enjoy the balmy breeze in Casselberry. A very wise move!

I felt sad about leaving my Michigan service club shortly after having served as President and was delighted when Jerry Young (now deceased) asked me to come to Rotary.

I now consider it one of the most pleasant and unexpected benefits of my move to Florida.

Editor's note: Duane has been the club's bulletin editor for many years and served as Sergeant-At- Arms for several years as well.

    From last week's meeting...
    Bear kidnapping interrogation

President Gary gets "checked out" by Detective Greg from the Police Department of Casselberry.

Last Wednesday, the Casselberry Police Department had set up a voice stress analyzer at the meeting and a number of Rotarians submitted to a series of questions.

These Rotarians had been under a secret veil of suspicion and they were brought forward for questioning.  Hank had been one of those under suspicion.  Under intense questioning, the detective had noted that Hank appeared to have something to hide.  All other Rotarians who had submitted to questioning have been dismissed as suspects

At a news conference afterwards President Gary had this to say, "This seems to confirm one of our suspicions that Mr. Lander may have been involved in the disappearance."

President Gary went on to say that Hank is not the only suspect and that they are investigating several other potential suspects.
