  • Member Spotlight - Jim Koller
    Jim Koller

Jim hails from Dayton, Ohio. He moved to DeLand, Florida, in 1973 to play music (bass guitar). I moved to Orlando in 1982, "my wife Sharon grew up here and her family still lives in the Casselberry area. In searching for building lots in 1989, we decided to buy a lot and build here."
His professional life has taken him from heading finances for four emerging growth technology companies in the 80s and 90s to CFO. In 2003, Jim veered his wealth of knowledge to become a financial advisor starting with Morgan Stanley and for the last three months he holds the position of Asst. VP/Investments, Financial Advisor for Banc of America Investment Services.
When asked how and why he joined Rotary, Jim stated “I have known about Rotary from coworkers over the years. I only recently decided to get involved near my home. I sought it out through the Rotary International web site; Gary Teramae responded and sponsored me.”
He went on to say, >”I joined primarily to develop relationships with business men and women in my own locale. I have not joined before because I have almost always worked long hours and have often had significant commutes; I simply didn't have spare time. Time limitations are still a difficulty for me with a fairly new career and two teen-age children.

What if? Will the Rotary Club of Casselberry exist tomorrow? A commentary by Carlos Giraldo
    Carlos Giraldo

By 2030 80 million (US) baby boomers (that’s us) will retire. Our generation behind us, the Generation X is 46 million.
A quick subtraction tells us we are in trouble after 2030. Not enough potential Rotarians to fill our ranks. What can we do today?
First, let's make the club attractive to the X rs. An idea floating around in Rotary - create a club within a club. One thought is letting the younger members create their own projects.
Next, sponsor and support Rotaract and Interact clubs. Inbue the spirit of Rotary - many will join later.
Finally, have a membership development strategy spanning a number of years. Without a working "membership map," a club simply moves with the current.
Going with the demographic current can be disastrous. The handwriting is on the wall. Let's think long term now!

    English language factoids

    Did you know...

    • There are only four words in the English language which end in "dous": tremendous, horrendous, stupendous and hazardous
    • The words "racecar," "kayak," and "level" are the same whether they are read left to right or right to left (known as palindromes)
    • "Stewardesses" is the longest word typed with only the left hand and "lollipop" with your right
