  • The Central Florida Zoo visits Casselberry!

Our speaker this week is Terri Beigel (pronounced “bye-gull”), Community Resource Manager of Central Florida Zoo.

She is a Florida native and graduate of UCF.

She sold health and life insurance for 12 years then decided to go have some fun for a while so I went to work at the Zoo.
Ms. Beigel, now a 13 year veteran of the Central Florida Zoo is here today to tell us about the Zoo’s history and future.
When asked what is her favorite things about working at the Zoo?, she said " It’s true when you say, it’s a zoo here! The person on the other end of the phone always asking, “What’s that sound?” Where else can you work and have owls, parrots, servals, llamas and a whole lot of other animals come visit you in your office!"

English Estates is out of the limelight

Last Wednesday on March 28, English Estates hosted David Hatch who is working with Dr. Stephen Covey on a new book about how schools and school districts incorporate the 7 Habits.
At a roundtable discussion held in the morning, Mr Hatch heard the message from parents, teachers and local community leaders (Rotary club members) about the impact of Dr. Covey's leadership system has had on the school.

This is no small measure considering the school went from a C rating to an A rating in just two short years.
Casselberry Rotarian and principal of the school received accolades from all for her leadership role in making the program successful. English Estates has now become a pilot school in Seminole county - a statement made by Seminole County School board director Dede Schaeffer.
    Congratulations Beth!

    RYLA students

Joe Pfaff and Bill Allen should be very proud Casselberry Rotarians: their daughters, Caitlin and Alexandra (respectively) participated in last weekend's Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program held at the Altamonte Springs Hilton.

    FLORIDA P.E.T.S.
    Mike Schaffer

    Picture: President elect Mike Schaffer

Another Rotarian acronym for President Elect Training Seminar (PETS).

Although not very important for the average member, this seminar will bring president elects from throughout the state of Florida into one location this weekend - Orlando.

The two day training of our future club presidents will take place at the International Plaza Resort on International Drive. President elect Mike Schaffer will be receiving intensive and extensive training on how to manage a crowd, put down riots, control "out of control" events, and learn how ad lib puns at weekly meetings (tongue-in-cheek, of course).

On the flip side (serious side), Rotary teaches the clubs' future leaders about the various jobs (secretary, treasurer, committee chairs), the Rotary Foundation, communications, etc. which will make him/her a strong and knowledgeable leader.
