  • Michael Taylor receives John Taylor Hoover Memorial Scholarship
Hank's Motley Crew - Posing with Michael Taylor

While Hank was away, his team of groaning Rotarians played in the annual tournament to benefit the John Taylor Hoover Memorial Fund.
While we did not win the tournament, we had fun watching Gary and Bill get up close and personal with the gymnasium floor. That last game was brutal!
Thank you to Bob Nettles, Bill Allen, Elizabeth, Ian (Gary's nephew), Scott King, Al Cook, Dan Roland, Lloyd Weber and Gary Teramae for testing your joints and tendons for the benefit of Michael Taylor - 2007's Scholarship recipient.

Take a Kid Fishin' Day was a GREAT SUCCESS!
Take a Kid Fishin' Day Winners with Trophies

Bill Allen Leads the way! 250 kids and almost as many volunteers joined Bill Saturday at Secret Lake Park to fish and compete in 3 different teams to catch fish and win bikes.

Each kid received a new telescopic fishing pole (not even available in stores), a new carrying case for their pole, tackle box with lures, and the skills to go out and fish on their own.
This was an experience and a day that these kids will never forget. The kids were divided into smaller groups of 2-4 and each group was given a mentor to help bait the hooks with real worms, cast out into the lake with the new poles, and reel in the big fish.

Kids grinned ear-to-ear as they caught even the smallest minnow and referees measured and weighed the big fish.
PRIZES PRIZES PRIZES...Aside from a free T-shirt and hat, 20 Well deserved kids won 20 bikes! Each of the kids took away memories of a great day and 20 bikes went home on buses with 20 kids who caught the biggest fish. Some of the trophies were bigger than the kids - the most and biggest fish were caught by the youngest kids!
This day was an exciting day for everyone involved. It was hard to tell if it was the kids or the adults that had the most fun. Everyone went home with smiles on their faces and food in their bellies.
Thank you to Publix for the great food and preparation and a big Thank You to all of the sponsors. We couldn't have done it without all of them!
