  • Wednesday's meeting: David Schillhammer
    OPO logo

This week's speaker is David Schillhammer, the executive director from the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mr. Schillhammer is the executive director of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra (OPO). He has led the OPO for many years, which is heading into its fourteenth year.
The OPO is unique in its field because the musicians participate on the board of directors. This creates a partnership between the musicians and the management that is unparalleled in the industry. Mr. Schillhammer has been instrumental in developing this unique partnership.
The OPO now faces new challenges from budget cutbacks due to property tax reforms to a possible unionization of the musicians that may stress the unique musician/management relationship that has worked so well in the past. With the recent approval of the new performing arts center, now is a most critical time for the future of the OPO.

The next fireside chat will be this Thursday, September 27th at 5pm at the Federal Trust Bank. Contact Bob Nettles if you have a potential member interested in learning about Rotary.

    Projects Corner: Spotlight on September
    volunteer

Here are the upcoming projects for the rest of September:

9/29 - Kid's House of Seminole - around 8am. Address: 5467 N. Ronald Reagan Blvd, Sanford. This is an open opportunity for volunteers to show up and help make their clubhouse. It will be a few hours of "hands on" work and to meet other Rotarians from other clubs. This is a great opportunity for new and seasoned members.
    Here's a sneak peek at October's projects:

10/9 - Partners in Democracy - a series of election tending programs where we can raise $500 each time for a couple of hours. Please contact Bill Hufford.

10/12 Coalition for the Homeless at 5:30pm. Talk to Bill Allen (the Head Chef) for ahead of time prep help or volunteering at the night. A great volunteer experience serving food.

10/24 School Essay Contest at 7:30am. Contact Sandi Solomon. A great way to see how one of these types of programs are done.
